NORVENTO’S ASSESSMENT FOLLOWING THE OUTCOME OF THE ELECTRICITY AUCTION FOR THE PRODUCTION OF ENERGY FROM RENEWABLE SOURCES

  • Norvento, which was awarded 128.6 MW in the last auction, will have more than 450 MW in operation in Spain over the coming years, mainly wind power. In addition, a further 228 MW are under development outside Spain.
  • Norvento expresses its satisfaction with the award and sees it as a solid underpinning for its energy parks business.
  • The short-term priorities of Norvento are the developing of the awarded 128 MW, and the continuation of the promotion of industrial self-consumption business internationally and in Spain, under the conditions permitted by the current legislative framework.
  • Norvento will prioritise Galicia in the development of the 128.6 MW awarded. The company believes that the region now has the opportunity to strengthen its role in the national wind energy sector.

Madrid, xxth May 2017.- Norvento, a Spanish renewable technologies company with comprehensive performance capabilities, assesses the results of the last auction held by the Secretary of State for Energy for the allocation of the specific remuneration regime for new electricity production facilities using renewable energy sources.

Firstly, Norvento expresses its satisfaction with the award of 128.6 MW in said auction, and that solidly underpins its traditional business of energy parks. It is already working to meet the deadlines set by the Ministry, and will continue working to consolidate its position as one of the main references in the Spanish renewables’ industry.

The company will prioritise Galicia in the development of this awarded lot, where it already has its wind farms with the corresponding administrative permits. Norvento considers that the region now has the opportunity to solidify its role in the national wind energy sector. To make the most out of it, it is necessary to combine the efforts of companies and public administrations, within an optimal framework of action for projects.

Norvento already had 110 MW operational in our country, and 369 MW in different development stages. Therefore, after this award, it will have more than 450 MW in operation in Spain over the coming years, mainly wind power. Outside Spain, the company also has a further 228 MW of wind power in various stages of development (Brazil and Poland).

On the other hand, Norvento considers that the auction is an important step towards the much-needed energy transition of our country, based on a productive-economic model low in carbon emissions and, thus, sustainable. However, there is another step missing: a regulatory framework to enable the development of industrial self-consumption.

Up to this moment, the priority, and efforts of the company are already focused, on one hand, on developing the 128.6 MW awarded and others already in various stages of development; and, on the other hand, on continuing to drive the business of distributed generation or industrial self-consumption at international level and, in Spain, under the conditions permitted by the current regulatory framework, also using proprietary technology. It is precisely there that Norvento believes that there is a great market opportunity, such as medium energy consumption (industrial self-consumption), in which it intends to expand with its projects and technology. This will be the second major pillar of its growth, together with the traditional business of energy parks.

From a global perspective, regarding the role of renewable energies, Norvento believes that the sector and the companies that represent it, in which it is included, must continue its compromise with constant innovation and improvement to become increasingly competitive. This will strengthen its undoubtedly valuable export and internationalisation role for the Spanish economy. The company will continue to work to consolidate its position among the main references in the Spanish renewables’ industry, where it is present throughout the value chain and in a large part of the generation technologies. It is firmly committed to R&D and the development of proprietary technology to design and implement 360o energy projects.

Finally, Norvento wishes to stress that the search for excellence, professionalism, rigour and long-term commitment have been and continue to be values present in the company since its foundation in 1981. The company particularly values the meticulous work carried out by the team involved in the preparation of the projects for this latest auction, which is a living example of these values.
