Network stability

Interview with Marta Molinas

The energy transition is redefining the stability of electricity grids. The gradual replacement of synchronous generators with electronic converters introduces new dynamics, resonances and synchronization challenges that cannot be explained solely by traditional Physics.

Why do these phenomena occur, and how can they be mitigated in increasingly electrified systems?

In this new blog interview, Fátima Castro, an engineer in the Power Electronics Department at Norvento TECHnPower, talks to Marta Molinas, a professor at NTNU and an international expert in the dynamics of electrical systems dominated by power electronics.

Throughout the conversation, they analyze the origin of instability in modern networks and the strategies needed to ensure a reliable electricity system in a scenario with a high deployment of renewables.

Marta Molinas

She is a professor at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and a leading international researcher in the dynamics of electrical systems dominated by power electronics. Her work focuses on converter-grid interaction, resonance analysis, stability in weak grids and the dynamic behavior of systems with high renewable penetration. She has led and participated in numerous European and international research projects, contributing decisively to the understanding of new instability phenomena in modern networks. Her publications and scientific contributions are now a fundamental basis for designing and safely operatiing future electrical systems.
