Smart Grids

Interview with Antonio Gómez-Expósito

Back another month with another expert interview on the energy challenges humanity faces on our way to a NetZero future. Electricity transmission and distribution needs to improve its infrastructure and adapt to the renewable deployment we already have and the coming one. The concept of Smart grids is necessary to plan our future grid.

In April, our manager of Power Electronics, Adolfo Ausín, an industrial engineer with a Master’s Degree in Electronic Systems, will interview Antonio Gómez-Expósito. Antonio is a Professor of Electrical Engineering at the School of Engineering (ETSI) of the University of Seville. He is a member of the Power and Energy Society (PES) and, during his vast career, he has received several awards such as the ‘Outstanding Power Engineering Educator Award’, the Gold Badge from the Spanish Association for the Development of Electrical Engineering or the Research and Technology Transfer Award from the Andalusian Regional Government.

Antonio Gómez-Expósito

Professor at the University of Seville since 1992, where he has led the Department of Electrical Engineering for twelve years. Fellow Member of the IEEE since 2005 and director of the Endesa Chair since its creation in 2007. Co-author of more than 350 technical publications and a dozen international textbooks. He has been a member of the editorial board of several international journals, including Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy (Q1 in JCR), of which he is currently Vice Editor-in-Chief. He taught more than a hundred courses and conferences in 19 countries. In 2012, he led the development of Ingelectus, a Technology-Based Company of the University of Seville.
Among the numerous distinctions he has received, we should mention the Outstanding Power Engineering Educator Award, granted by the IEEE Power & Energy Society (2019); the Gold Badge from the Spanish Association for the Development of Electrical Engineering (2013); and the III Juan López Peñalver Research Award (2011).

Since 2013, he has been a Full Member of the Royal Sevillian Academy of Sciences, and between 2018 and 2020, he was a Director of Red Eléctrica de España.
