clean-energy

No fossil fuels; it will make good use of technological advances to get superior benefits from renewable energy.

There is little doubt about the impact of human activity on the environment we live in. Climate change is a well-known effect from the impact of fossil fuel use and it affects us globally. If we not only think about this impact, but also about others that directly affect the health of people, fauna and flora, we realise that clean energy generation plays a key role in mitigating these.

Humans’ resistance against those elements that get our planet dirty is increasing and, even though it is still not enough, there are unquestionable examples of commitments protecting and respecting our planet. Europe backs up the development of an energy system committed to the environment through the third social challenge of the strategy Europe 2020 called Safe, Clean and Efficient Energy.

On a global scale, the United Nations has defined 17 sustainable development goals to transform our world. Goal number 7 is to: “Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all”. Organizations such as IRENA (International Renewable Energy Agency) support countries in their transition towards a sustainable energy future and are used as a forum where countries exchange experiences, visions and commitments, as can be seen in the video on this year’s assembly.

Private initiatives are also important to face clean energy challenges. The risk capital industry, together with the support of R&D public programmes are key to give a boost to the development of clean energy technologies. Therefore, we find investment groups such as Clean Energy Venture Group, whose origin was connected with MIT supporting technology projects with initial capital and their experience in the creation of companies related to clean energy.

Our colleagues at Norvento and myself work in the development and integration of clean energy sources to help our clients to be more energy efficient and reduce their impact in our ecosystem.
