The regional General Director of Energy and Mines and the Delegate of the Xunta de Galicia in Lugo visit the Norvento wind farm construction site in the municipalities of Abadín and A Pastoriza

  • Construction of the project is at a very advanced stage and the 10 wind turbines that comprise the wind farm have already been installed.
  • It will have a generating capacity of 34.65 MW and will prevent the emission of 50,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.

Ángel Bernardo Tahoces, Regional General Director of Energy and Mines, and José Manuel Balseiro, Local Representative of the Xunta de Galicia in Lugo, have visited today the wind farm works of Norvento, a Spanish renewable energies technology company, sited in the municipalities of Abadín and A Pastoriza. Iván Nogueiras, Managing Director of Norvento, guided the representatives of the Xunta de Galicia during their visit and shared the technical details of the project. The mayors of Abadín and A Pastoriza also attended the visit.

The construction phase of the wind farm is well underway and the 10 wind turbines have already been set up. These wind turbines will have an energy production capacity of 34.65 MW and will prevent the emission of 50,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per year.

The project has been made possible thanks to the support of the Directorate General for wind projects developed in the region.

Progress of Norvento’s projects in Galicia

In addition to this project, Norvento is working on the construction of 5 new wind farms in Lugo, for a total of 128.25 MW of power. The farms, located in Abadín, A Pastoriza, Mondoñedo, Riotorto, Trabada, A Pontenova and Lourenzá, will be ready for operation before 31st December and will produce an annual amount of energy equivalent to the electricity consumption of a municipality of 90,000 inhabitants. Norvento thus maintains its commitment to the sustainable development of Galicia and to the environment, avoiding the emission of 4 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent during the useful life of the wind farms.

The completion and operation of the projects will result in substantial benefits for the municipalities that host them. During the lifetime of the projects, approximately 19 million euros in taxes will be generated for local and regional administrations.

The new wind farms will be monitored and managed both from the control centres located in the wind farms themselves and from the company’s headquarters, the Norvento Enerxía Innovation Centre (CIne) in Lugo, one of the most advanced buildings in Europe in terms of energy independence and self-generation through renewables, and which operates completely off-grid using clean energy.

Iván Nogueiras, Managing Director of Norvento, stated that “we are very pleased to continue contributing with our projects to the economic and social development of Galicia, creating jobs and contributing to the consolidation of the industrial fabric of the renewable sector.”
