Norvento’s six new wind farms come on stream

  • All the wind farms (Neda, Sasdónigas, Sasdónigas II, a Pastoriza, Cadeira and Carracedo) are already feeding energy into the grid.
  • As of now, Norvento has 242 MW in operation in Spain, and around 800 MW under development in Spain and abroad.
  • The new wind farms will avoid the emission of 4 million tonnes of CO2 over the next 25 years.

Lugo, 17th December 2019.- Norvento, a Spanish renewable energies technology company, has completed the construction of its six new wind farms that were in the development phase in the province of Lugo. The company has in this way met the deadline set for their completion since it was allocated the projects in the 2017 auction of the Ministry of Energy (now Ministry for Ecological Transition).

The farms, located in Abadín, A Pastoriza, Mondoñedo, Riotorto, Trabada, A Pontenova and Lourenzá, are all up and running. In fact, four of them have already been feeding energy into the grid for months. The farms represent a total of 128 MW of power and will produce an annual amount of energy equivalent to the electricity consumption of a municipality of 90,000 inhabitants.

With the completion of these projects, Norvento now has 242 MW in operation in Spain, and about 800 MW under development in Spain and abroad.

The company expects that the new wind farms will help avoid the emission of 4 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent during their useful life. Their construction and operation will also bring numerous benefits to the municipalities that host them, with approximately 19 million euros expected to be generated for local and regional administrations in taxes and fees.

The new wind farms are being monitored and managed both from the control centres located in the facilities themselves and from the company’s headquarters located in Lugo, the Norvento Energy Innovation Centre (CIne, by its Spanish acronym), one of the most advanced buildings in Europe in terms of independence and energy self-generation through renewable energies, and which operates totally disconnected from the electricity grid using clean energies.

Iván Nogueiras Pérez, Managing Director of Norvento, highlights that “we are pleased to have complied on time and with the highest standards of quality and efficiency with the roadmap set in 2017 after the wind power auction. With this stage concluded, we will now continue working on the development of future new projects, both in the centralised generation business and in self-consumption and distributed generation with renewables.”
