Norvento brings renewable energy and energy efficiency back to Galician classrooms

  • Thanks to its already consolidated social action together with the Sotavento Experimental Wind Farm.
  • Once again, this initiative aimed to raise awareness among almost 2,000 students from different provinces of Galicia about the need to commit to clean technologies and energy efficiency for a better future.
  • This last edition of the social action has been the best rated by students and teachers since it began to be developed in 2020, with 100% of recipients saying that they would repeat the activities carried out.

Norvento Enerxía has relaunched for another year its social action with the Sotavento Experimental Wind Farm, which aims to raise awareness among nearly 2,000 Galician students each year about the importance of renewable energy and energy efficiency for a better future.

On this occasion, during the first four months of the school year, Sotavento’s teachers visited 17 schools in the provinces of Lugo, A Coruña and Pontevedra, where they showed Galician students how the electricity system works, the different energy sources used in Spain, the economic and environmental impact of their use, as well as different energy saving and efficiency measures that can be applied in our daily life-style. Besides, several schools visited the facilities of the Sotavento Experimental Wind Farm, where they were able to experience learning in an even more practical way.

In the current fourth edition of this social action, Norvento and Sotavento, together with children and teenagers aged between 3 and 17, have approached different realities with the aim of spreading knowledge about renewable energies in society. A multidisciplinary team of educators from Sotavento, with specific training in engineering and pedagogy adapted to the students’ previous knowledge, gave this training using dynamic and accessible materials for the youngest, such as infographics, energy calculators or diagrams, supported by workshops with real-scale energy installations. Norvento has promoted this informative activity with the aim of encouraging the creation of an educated opinion among students about the energy reality of society and the need to commit to a clean and sustainable model in the coming decades.

Top-rated edition and presence in three Galician provinces

Norvento, together with Sotavento, has been developing this initiative continuously since 2020, reaching an increasing number of students and being present in more schools. Since then, almost 7,000 students have been trained in saving habits, energy efficiency and respect for the environment.

This latest edition has been the most highly valued so far by the students and teachers who took part, as 100% of the participants, in a survey carried out after the different activities within the framework of the social action, stated that they would undoubtedly repeat it.

The social action of Norvento and Sotavento has reached this year for the first time villages such as Zas (A Coruña) or Moraña (Pontevedra), as well as a large majority of centres in the province of Lugo, where Norvento has most of its renewable energy generation facilities and where its headquarter is located, in a further commitment to contribute to Lugo and Galician society through its activity.
