Norvento Enerxía and Enzen provide renewable energy in the Caribbean

These projects will be developed in Guyana, Grenada and Suriname.

Enzen, a company dedicated to consulting, technology, management and innovation for companies, governments and non-governmental organisations, and Norvento Enerxía, a company which generates renewable energy and technology associated with distributed energy products and solutions, have joined forces to provide renewable energy to three Caribbean countries.

These projects are led by Enzen Spain, under the turnkey or EPC modality, which includes engineering, procurement and commissioning of the photovoltaic installations.

The mission will be come along with Norvento Enerxía’s battery storage systems. To sum up, they will use three containerised nBESS storage systems, with installed capacities of 1330 kWh, 575 kWh and 768 kWh of lithium-ion batteries, and 400 kVA of nGM converters each.

Appart from the company’s control systems, for hybrid photovoltaic generation plants.

Three projects carried out at the same time

Both companies are undertaking the three projects simultaneously, on the island of Guaquenám in Guyana, on the island of Carriacou (Grenada) and in Parmaribo (Suriname). In this way, the inhabitants will be able to be energy self-sufficient through the efficient generation of energy from renewable sources.

The project in Guyana will enable the island of Guaquenám, geographically located at the mouth of a river, what makes it difficult for its inhabitants and businesses to access the national electricity grid, to meet its energy demands thanks to a hybrid generation plant.

The island is isolated from the electricity grid and it currently needs a couple of diesel generators. Thanks to this initiative, photovoltaic generation will be the first source of energy generation, which will contribute to the development of industry in the area.

On the other hand, a photovoltaic deployment will be made at the AdeKUS University (Anton de Kom University) in Paramaribo, in order to generate energy savings and boost the sustainability of the educational institution, thanks to a new solar park.

Carriacou Island Project

A project will be launched on the island of Carriacou (Grenada), and it consists on providing the island with a renewable energy route, making it the largest source of green energy on the island, in order to improve its energy network.

All these projects combine two important elements for the future of the sector, storage and microgrids. The company’s energy storage systems (nGM and nBESS) will enable the development of a microgrid in the different locations, providing them with a model of energy self-sufficiency.

The Galician company continues to invest in R&D in distributed energy and to participate in projects such as this one to bring its technology to different parts of the world. Both nBESS and nGM are the result of years of research.

Energy self-sufficiency through batteries and microgrids

Thanks to the company’s commitment to technological development from Galicia, the project will be carried out this year, and it will improve the resilience of the sites’ electricity system and reduce their carbon footprint.

The projects demonstrate that storage and microgrids are already a reality thanks to the commitment to talent, technology and R&D. A reality that will allow us to move towards the decarbonisation of the economy.

Juan Morilla, Operations Area Director of Norvento Enerxía, said: “We are very pleased about the collaboration with Enzen Spain, as, thanks to our joint experience in renewable energies, we can promote sustainable energy development in different regions of the Caribbean”.
