Norvento Enerxía will invest more than fifty
million euros in a new factory
self-sufficient and zero emissions in Lugo

·      The plant will be located next to the CIne building, the company’s headquarters in the As Gándaras Business Park in Lugo, and will mean the consolidation of 1,000 jobs.

·     This new facility, called the “Norvento Enerxía Cero Factory”, has been declared a Singular Business Project by the Xunta de Galicia and will be completely energy self-sufficient from 100%
renewable sources.

·      It will produce a whole range of technological products with high added value for energy generation and storage designed by Norvento, including medium-power nED wind turbines, electrical storage solutions with batteries and power electronics systems that will allow the production of green hydrogen.

Norvento Enerxía, a company that generates renewable energy and technology associated with distributed energy products and solutions, will build a new energy self-sufficient, zero-emission production center near its CIne headquarters —Norvento Enerxía Innovation Center—, in the As Business Park Gandaras, in Lugo. This innovative project, called “Norvento Enerxía Cero Factory”, will involve an investment of more than fifty million euros and the consolidation of 1,000 direct, indirect and induced jobs.

This initiative, which represents a new commitment by Norvento to the Galician community, has been declared by the Xunta de Galicia as a Singular Business Project, and responds to the company’s objective of promoting the technological independence of Spain in the field of renewable energies. In addition, the project is focused on developing sustainable technological solutions, mainly in a sector that has great potential for the future, that of energy storage.

The new “Norvento Enerxía Cero Factory”, whose construction phase is expected to begin in the second half of 2024, will occupy an estimated area of approximately 40,000 square meters of industrial land in the first phase, and will be used for the production of all a range of high value-added products designed by Norvento, such as the nED medium power wind turbines, containerized electrical storage solutions with batteries and power electronics systems that will allow the electrolyzers to produce green hydrogen, among other innovative focused solutions to promote technological independence.

Carbon Neutral Factory

As its name indicates, the new Norvento production center will have technology that will allow it to be completely energy independent from 100% renewable sources, thus becoming one of the first completely self-sufficient factories. Likewise, and derived from this renewable supply, the new center will have a balance of zero net carbon emissions, which will also make it a pioneer in the field of industrial decarbonization.

This carbon neutrality responds to the vision that Norvento has been putting into practice in its more than 40 years of experience as a pioneer in the development of renewable energies, and also reflected in its CIne corporate headquarters. In this center, the company has its own system that guarantees absolute independence from the electrical network, since it takes advantage of sunlight, wind, rainwater and recycles gray water. Thanks to its comprehensive capacity to incorporate renewable energy, this headquarters prevents the emission into the atmosphere of more than 160 tons of greenhouse gases per year.

For Pablo Fernández Castro, president of Norvento Enerxía, “this industrial project demonstrates, once again, Norvento’s strong commitment to Galicia and its talent, as well as the great potential that our land has to contribute to reducing technological dependence in the renewable energy sector. The new factory consolidates our technological and industrial project and will allow us to advance in the development of new disruptive solutions for energy generation and storage, as well as promote the Spanish manufacturing of technologies that allow us to produce and manage clean and efficient energy in order to thus lead the energy transition”.
