Norvento instals a wind turbine for business self-consumption in Gran Canaria

  • The 100kW nED100 wind turbine will enable Finca Condal Vega Grande, located in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, to generate a large part of its energy consumption autonomously.
  • This will prevent the emission of 2,500 tonnes of CO2 equivalent into the atmosphere over the lifetime of the wind turbine.
  • The project benefits from the great wind potential of the Canary Islands, which makes the use of wind energy for self-consumption in commercial, tourist and industrial complexes very interesting.

Norvento, a Spanish renewable energies technology company, has installed a new nED100 wind turbine at the Finca Condal Vega Grande, located in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Gran Canaria, a venue for events. Thanks to the capacity of the 100kW wind turbine, the site will reduce its energy dependence on the grid by generating a significant part of its electricity consumption self-sufficiently.

The installation takes advantage of the island’s great wind potential by embedding itself in an urban area where business use predominates, similar to many other locations where Norvento’s wind turbine has already been installed, many of them in the UK. Such locations require highly efficient and quiet wind turbines such as the nED100.

The project has benefited from the Canary Islands Investment Reserve and with it Finca Condal reinforces its commitment to environmental sustainability, avoiding the emission of 2,500 tonnes of CO2 equivalent into the atmosphere over the lifetime of the wind turbine with the power generated. Once in operation, the wind turbine will be monitored from Norvento’s Control Centre and maintenance will be carried out by Cobra.

nED 100 wind turbine: designed for medium energy self-consumption

The nED100 model, designed by Norvento, is specially designed for self-consumption projects and is capable of producing up to 400MWh/year. Its maintenance is practically reduced to an annual check-up and it is designed for medium energy consumption, such as shopping centres, industrial facilities, hospitals, ports, conference centres, or hotel and leisure complexes, among others. The wind turbine has a height of between 24 and 36 metres, in order to adapt to the particularities of each site.

With a rotor diameter of 24 metres, the design of its blades is designed to optimise aerodynamic performance. The wind turbine can operate in high and turbulent wind conditions, which are common in the Canary Islands, thanks to its advanced control system. The nED100 is deployed in dozens of locations in several countries. Among them, Norvento’s headquarters in Lugo, the Norvento Enerxía Innovation Centre (CIne), one of the most advanced buildings in Europe in terms of energy independence and self-generation through renewables, 100% self-sufficient and totally off-grid.

Manuel Pinilla, Commercial Director at Norvento, highlights that “the commitment made by Finca Condal Vega Grande is an example of how clean energy supply is within the reach of consumers of all sizes; the existing wind potential in the Canary Islands makes our wind turbine a perfect fit for a wide variety of business customers”.

About Norvento
