Norvento TECHnPower introduces the nXL series, the power converters with the highest power density on the market

With up to 9 MVA in a 20ft. format and a fully sealed design, the Spanish company’s new converter is designed to maximize availability and optimize profitability in utility-scale projects

Norvento TECHnPower will introduce the nXL converter series at stand B4.530 at Intersolar Europe 2026. With up to 9 MVA in a single 20ft unit, nXL is the most compact solution on the market, achieving power densities of up to 622 kVA/m³, which reduces the number of units required, simplifies the electrical infrastructure, and optimizes the project’s initial investment.

This series of converters has been designed to address the new challenges facing the energy system, where the integration of renewables, energy storage, and grid services requires more powerful, flexible, and robust equipment. Among its distinctive capabilities are the ability to operate in both grid-connected systems and off-grid environments, as well as seamless transitions between different operating modes, thanks to its advanced Grid-forming, Black Start, and Seamless Transition functions.

Designed and manufactured in Europe

Behind the development of the nXL series is Norvento TECHnPower team, Norvento’s technology division dedicated to the design and manufacture of products for the utility-scale market, with 45 years of experience in the renewable energy value chain and more than 15 years in the development of technological solutions for the commercial and industrial (C&I) and self-consumption segments.

The high level of specialization among the Power Electronics team has made it possible to develop proprietary technology—designed and manufactured in Europe—with a clear focus on minimizing operating and maintenance costs. A team of more than 200 engineers works from facilities in Madrid and Lugo (Galicia), where the nXL range is designed and manufactured.

Maximum performance under the most extreme conditions

The nXL series features a fully sealed design that, together with the COOLnAirtight cooling system, ensures stable operation under the most demanding environmental conditions.

The system combines liquid cooling with internal recirculation of conditioned air, without any exchange with the outside environment. This configuration eliminates the need for filters, reduces maintenance, and provides IP65 protection throughout the entire unit. Thanks to this design, nXL converters can operate over a wide temperature range, from –30°C to +50°C, maintaining their rated power up to 40°C without derating.

These characteristics make it well-suited for use in environments with high salinity, corrosive areas, desert climates, or other adverse conditions, helping to maximize system availability and reduce the operating costs associated with routine maintenance and equipment downtime.

Thanks to the use of state-of-the-art components and materials, combined with advanced control algorithms, the nXL series achieves market-leading efficiency levels across the entire operating range—at full load, partial load, and low power—nearing 99%. It also offers excellent waveform quality, with extremely low harmonic distortion (THDi < 1%), helping to maximize the quality of the supplied power and ensure compliance with the most stringent grid codes.

Modular architecture and multipurpose platform

The nXL is based on a central modular architecture consisting of four power modules, each with independent management of its DC inputs, which increases availability, limits the impact of system failures, and facilitates maintenance.

This architecture simplifies integration with various energy topologies and applications and makes it possible to adapt a single piece of equipment to different hybrid configurations without the need for additional external solutions.

Designed from its conception as a multipurpose platform, nXL can be configured as a bidirectional converter between the grid and energy storage systems (BESS), a photovoltaic (PV) inverter, a rectifier for green hydrogen (H₂) electrolyzers, a converter for supplying power to ships in port (OPS), and various railway applications (RLW).

In addition, it integrates advanced grid support capabilities, including operation in pure STATCOM mode or as an active filter, expanding its range of applications beyond conventional power conversion.

Norvento, since 1981

Norvento Enerxía was founded in 1981 and has a long history in the development, manufacture, and marketing of technology for distributed renewable energy. Its solutions include nED medium-power wind turbines, containerized battery storage systems (nGM BESS), Norvento Gridmaster (nGM) converters, and monitoring and control systems. The company has developed and implemented turnkey self-consumption and renewable energy microgrid projects for customers around the world.

The launch of the nXL range is the first in a series of systems designed for large-scale applications that will be developed by Norvento TECHnPower. Norvento’s technology division was founded with a clear vision: to accelerate decarbonization using proprietary, flexible technology ready for a renewable energy model.

The nXL series of converters will be manufactured at neFO, the pioneering self-sufficient and carbon-neutral factory that Norvento is building in Lugo. Once operational, this facility will house the production of all Norvento TECHnPower equipment and will serve as a practical demonstration of the sustainability principles that guide Norvento. It is estimated that this plant will prevent the annual emission of 187,000 metric tons of CO₂.
