Norvento launches business line focused on biogas solutions for industry

• With this line of business, the company consolidates its commercial offer of solutions related to biogas, an area where it already had technical capabilities and has carried out several projects 
• Biogas is a market with great potential for development due to the consolidation of technology and a regulatory framework that is expected to integrate this technology for its ability to contribute to the circular economy.
• Javier Taibo joins Norvento to lead this line of business and boost its commercial development.

Lugo, 23^rd June 2020.- Norvento, a Spanish renewable energies technology company, has announced the opening of a new business line focused on the development of biogas plants and solutions. The company, which had already been operating in this sector since 2013, carrying out R&D, engineering and turnkey biogas projects, thus consolidates and unifies its portfolio of solutions, talent and knowledge around biogas. 

This is a market with great potential for development in Spain in the coming years thanks to the maturing of the sector and technology, as well as a more favourable regulatory framework in which the role of renewable technologies has gained prominence to achieve the objectives of the 2030 Agenda, where biogas is a key element in contributing to the circular economy and facilitating waste management. Norvento’s new business line will target both the private sector and public companies, providing them with solutions to develop biogas production projects, whether for electricity and thermal energy generation or for other uses of this renewable fuel, such as injection into the gas grid or its use in vehicles. 

To lead this new unit, the company has appointed Javier Taibo as head of Norvento’s biogas business. Javier has a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of La Coruña and an MBA from INSEAD. He has extensive experience in the fields of construction, heavy machinery and energy, and has pursued his career both in Spain and abroad. In Taibo’s own words, “unlike other markets such as Germany, where biogas solutions are already consolidated in large numbers, the Spanish market barely has two hundred plants, so its growth potential is exponential if we take into account the eventual evolution of the national regulatory framework and the maturation of the technology. Biogas will undoubtedly play an increasingly important role in the energy mix, and Norvento’s previous experience, which we are now adding to this new branch, places us in a strategic position to lead this sector.”

Among the target customers of the new unit are companies in the primary sector, food processing and production, and in general any other company that generates organic waste. Thanks to the digestion of waste and the consequent production of biogas, these companies can cover a significant part of their electrical and thermal energy consumption with this fuel, which is completely renewable in nature, and achieve better waste treatment. 

The team led by Taibo will initially carry out projects in the domestic market, although they will also offer solutions beyond our borders, and will work together with the rest of Norvento’s areas focused on distributed generation to offer comprehensive solutions to its customers through complementary technologies, such as photovoltaics and energy storage.
