«EMSPILOTUERTO» Project

Norvento Energía Distribuída Plus, Enfasys Ingeniería, and EDP España are carrying out the project called "Development of an Intelligent Energy Management Methodology for Hydroelectric Plants through Hybridization of Generation Units" (File No. IDE/2023/000503). The main objective is to conduct research aimed at acquiring new knowledge for the development of a methodology and a tool that allows managing energy storage based on batteries, which will be charged via hydro-screws generating hydraulic energy, located in the Pilotuerto reservoir, Asturias.

To achieve this, the project involves the development of a 50kVA converter to transform the energy generated by an Archimedes screw system and store it in a battery system, all managed through an external energy management system (EMS).

During the project, work will focus on the development of a prototype to validate the proposed solution, assess different energy optimization strategies, and analyze the scalability of the converter + EMS solution for higher-capacity hydraulic installations (200kVA, 400kVA, etc.), as well as for other renewable energy installations.

The goal is to contribute to improving energy efficiency by enabling the storage and intelligent management of renewable energy sources, such as hydroelectric, through storage systems that capitalize on low-demand periods and minimize losses in energy conversion and transmission processes.

This industrial research project has been funded through the R&D Projects program of the Science, Business Competitiveness, and Innovation Agency of the Principality of Asturias (SEKUENS), co-financed by the European Union through a grant of €38,654.56.
