«neFO» Project

Norvento will work on the neFO self-sufficient, zero-emission factory project. This project is endowed with 27.5 million euros by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) and is supported by the European Innovation Fund as part of the “Innovation Fund 2023 Net Zero Technologies (InnovFund - 2023 - NZT)” in the category “InnovFund - 2023 - NZT - Manufacturing - Clean-tech manufacturing”.

Characteristics of neFO project

neFO project will play a key role in the development and manufacture of end-to-end products for wind generation and energy storage to meet the growing demand for renewable energy solutions in the EU. This project will build a cutting-edge factory in Lugo, Spain, which will produce the latest technology wind turbines, advanced battery storage equipment and modern energy converters, seamlessly integrated into a single, efficient system. The project will completely avoid greenhouse gas emissions compared to the baseline situation.

neFO factory represents a significant breakthrough in the manufacture of components for wind energy and renewable energy systems. The products will integrate certified technologies to manufacture a range of products (wind turbines, batteries and power converters) that exceed current commercial and technological standards. The project will offer a portfolio of solutions, using locally manufactured components, that will achieve energy autonomy and increase the EU’s access to zero-emission energy technologies.

neFO will be powered 100% by renewable energy, initially from solar panels and on-site energy storage units through a zero-energy system, supplementing energy demand with renewable sources from our facilities when needed. As production increases, factory-built systems (such as wind turbines and energy storage units) will gradually contribute to the facility’s power supply. The project will avoid the emission of 187,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year, which equates to a reduction of 1.8 million tonnes of CO₂ in the first 10 years, equivalent to planting 180 million trees.

neFO responds to the demand of the European energy sector to increase the competitiveness of renewable energy and to ensure that it remains at the forefront of technological progress. Its business model is more resilient and incorporates product innovation, circular economy principles and a localised supply chain. The new facility will meet the latest sustainable building standards, reflecting neFO’s commitment to minimising its environmental footprint.

neFO’s environmental and social impact

neFO is a catalyst for economic growth and competitiveness, particularly in Lugo and Galicia (Spain). Between 2024 and 2027, 303 high value-added jobs will be created. Approximately 237 indirect jobs will also be generated in related sectors. The project activities are expected to create 84 induced jobs, representing around 25% of indirect employment.

neFO will have a multiplier effect on the local and regional economy, with the potential to increase production purchases tenfold in the long term, strengthening the value chain and generating a wider range of suppliers. Flexibility in production will allow neFO to meet market demand, with an infrastructure designed to scale operations. In addition, costs will be reduced through large-scale production, process improvement and R&D, making products more cost-effective and efficient.
