The Galician Regional Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, Ángeles Vázquez, visits Norvento to learn about its contribution to decarbonisation and industrial activity in Galicia

  • Accompanied by the Deputy Director of Renewable Energie, Juan Alberto Vidal, and the Regional Delegate of the Galician Regional Government in Lugo, Javier Arias Fouz, she held a working meeting with the President of Norvento, Pablo Fernández Castro and the company’s management team.
  • Norvento’s Technological and Industrial Plan focuses on the combat against climate change through the generation of clean energy, the design and manufacture of technological products for the energy transition and the development of advanced solutions to decarbonise Galician industry generating employment and industrial activity in Galicia.
  • Norvento has consolidated its technological and industrial project by reinvesting profits from renewable energy generation in the development of key technology for the energy transition.

The Galician Regional Minister for the Environment and Climate Change of the Galician Regional Government, Ángeles Vázquez, together with the General Deputy Director of Renewable Energies Juan Alberto Vidal and the Delegate of the Regional Government in Lugo Javier Arias Fouz, visited today the Norvento Enerxía -CIne- Innovation Centre, the company’s headquarters in Lugo, in order to learn about the company’s contribution to decarbonisation, industrial activity and employment in Galicia.

During a work meeting with the president of Norvento, Pablo Fernández Castro and the company’s management team, the head of the Galician Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change was able to get first-hand knowledge of Norvento’s Technological and Industrial Plan.

This is a commitment of the Galician company to combat climate change through the generation of clean energy, in the design and manufacture of the technology necessary for the energy transition from Galicia, as well as the implementation of advanced energy solutions for self-consumption to decarbonise Galician industry and make it more competitive. It is a vision that contributes to energy and technological independence and to economic growth and employment in the community.

Reinvesting the benefits of renewable generation in key technology for the energy transition

During the working meeting Pablo Fernández Castro also explained to Ángeles Vázquez that Norvento has been reinvesting the profits it obtains by generating renewable energy in order to grow and consolidate its Technological and Industrial Plan, which consists of designing and manufacturing in Galicia equipment for energy generation and storage.

This is a technology with high added value and key to the energy transition, as some of this equipment is essential in battery storage projects, electric vehicle charging, electrification of port infrastructures and green hydrogen generation, which is in demand worldwide.

Thanks to the consolidation of this Technological and Industrial Plan, today Norvento has almost 300 professionals employed, providing highly qualified and quality employment in Galicia and establishing high-value knowledge in the community as a result of a unique business model.

Energy self-sufficient and zero-emission headquarters

Ángeles Vázquez was also able to visit the CIne building, an energy self-sufficient and emission-neutral headquarters, thanks to a system that uses sunlight, rainwater and recycles grey water for self-supply, avoiding the emission of more than 160 tonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere per year. The Regional Minister also had the opportunity to see the inside of one of the nBESS, the battery energy storage systems that the company designs and produces in Lugo.

During the visit to CIne, Ángeles Vázquez highlighted: “our maximum support for Norvento as a Galician company that is committed to Galicia, and that at the same time is a global benchmark.” The Galician Regional Minister also explained that “Norvento is a company that exports knowledge from Galicia, an aspect that has an impact on our community.”

Pablo Fernández Castro, president of Norvento Energía, said: ‘Renewables are a priority today. We must invest in clean energies to contribute to prevent the climate crisis from getting even worse. Undoubtedly, we must be able to turn this need into an economic development opportunity for Galicia. Within these opportunities, Norvento goes one step further. We are not only building and operating renewable energy facilities, but we are also developing renewable technology, such as medium-power wind turbines and energy storage systems and implementing advanced self-consumption energy solutions for Galician industry, helping it to become more competitive. With this position we are not only contributing to energy independence, but also to technological independence and we create technological and industrial activity in Galicia’.
