The Regional Minister of Education, Science, Universities and Professional Training, Román Rodríguez, highlights Norvento’s commitment to innovation and training.

  • The head of education of the Xunta de Galicia visited the company’s headquarters accompanied by other institutional representatives.
  • The president of Norvento, Pablo Fernández Castro, and part of his executive team, showed the councillor the sustained and future commitment of the company to innovation and its long history of collaboration with research centres and universities, evidenced in projects such as Fisterra.
  • Norvento’s promotion of talent and training has involved the incorporation of 71 people from the main universities and vocational training centres in Galicia into its team over the last four years, as part of its talent and internship programmes, 70% of whom remain in the company.

The Regional Minister of Education, Science, Universities and Vocational Training of the Xunta de Galicia, Román Rodríguez, accompanied by other institutional representatives, visited today the Norvento Enerxía -CIne- Innovation Centre, headquarters of the company in Lugo, to learn about Norvento’s commitment to innovation, talent and training in Galicia.

In a meeting held prior to the tour around the CIne facilities, Pablo Fernández Castro and part of the company’s management team explained to the head of the education department Norvento’s sustained and future commitment to innovation and its extensive track record of collaboration with research centres and universities.

It is precisely this commitment to technological innovation, applied to the energy sector, constant and for decades, which has made possible the consolidation of Norvento’s industrial project in Galicia, thanks to the multiple technological contributions made over the years. These innovations are essential to promote the energy transition from Galicia, in which Norvento also reinvests a large part of the benefits obtained in its renewable generation area.

Reduction of emissions in maritime transport with a Galician signature: Proxecto Fisterra

One of the initiatives presented was precisely the Fisterra Project, in which Norvento works together with CTAG and the University of Vigo and which has the support of the Galician Innovation Agency (GAIN). This project aims to create a power electronics converter that will significantly reduce the consumption of fossil fuels in ships during their arrival and docking in ports. With this commitment to innovation, a Galician work team will find a solution to the challenge of decarbonisation of maritime transport.

Norvento’s commitment to training and talent

Román Rodríguez was told in detail a summary of the main initiatives that Norvento is implementing to promote training and talent within the company, among them, the fluid collaboration with different Vocational Training centres throughout Galicia and the three universities. Another of the most outstanding initiatives is the talent and internship programme, which incorporates students and recent graduates from Galician universities and Vocational Training to the company’s team. A total of 71 people have taken part in one of these programmes over the last four years, 70% of whom are still working at Norvento today.

Likewise, the councillor also got to know some of the social initiatives in the field of talent that Norvento has launched, such as its collaboration since 2023 with the Princess of Girona Foundation in the Talent Tour, to promote the development of talent among students, or the social action together with the Sotavento Wind Farm, in which Norvento has provided 7,000 Galician schoolchildren since 2020 with training in renewable energies, energy efficiency and energy saving.

During his visit to CIne, Román Rodríguez highlighted: ‘Norvento is a first class company with highly qualified people, which is constantly committed to innovation and knowledge as pillars for competitiveness and of which all Galicians can be proud, as it is a reference company that contributes to making Galicia and to fix talent that comes out of our universities and vocational training centres’

Pablo Fernández Castro, president of Norvento Enerxía, said that ‘Our commitment to innovation is part of our DNA. We have been working for more than forty years on projects which have allowed us to develop great technological advances. Thanks to them, we could obtain, from Galicia, technology of great added value and key in the energetic transition, as some of this equipment is essential in battery storage projects, electric vehicle recharging, electrification of port infrastructures and generation of green hydrogen, which is in demand worldwide. In this way, and thanks to constant innovation, we have managed to consolidate our great technological and industrial project, with more than 300 professionals in our team, creating high quality and highly qualified employment in Galicia, and establishing high value knowledge in the community, resulting in an excellent business model’.
