Torre de Núñez will deploy two 200 kW photovoltaic self-consumption installations by Norvento

Con estas solución industrial sostenible la empresa evitará la emisión de 83 toneladas de CO2 al año.

  • The company will avoid the emission of 83 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per year thanks to the new photovoltaic installations at its two factories located in Conturiz and O Corgo (Lugo).
  • It is one of the first Galician meat companies to opt for the industrial photovoltaic self-consumption model in the cured ham production process as a lever to reduce its carbon footprint and promote sustainable development.

Lugo, 17th February 2021.- The meat processing company Torre de Núñez will deploy two 200 kW photovoltaic self-consumption facilities at its two factories based in Lugo, Spain, in collaboration with Norvento, a Spanish renewable technologies company. The new facilities will have a power of 100 kW each and will avoid the emission of a total of 83 tonnes of CO2 equivalent into the atmosphere each year.

The initiative is an example of the quest for synergies between Galician companies that are committed to the sustainable creation of value for the region and to competing in the global market through energy transition as a differentiating element, both by incorporating sustainability into their production processes, in the case of Torre de Núñez, and by providing technological solutions to make this possible, as in the case of Norvento.

The facilities will be carried out, firstly, in the company’s factory located in Conturiz, which has 15,000 m² for the production of cold meats, a natural cellar and a production capacity of 5,000 tonnes per year. And, secondly, in the O Corgo factory, comprising a 10,400 m² cured ham dryer with a capacity to produce 600,000 units per year, as well as a 2,500 m² slicing facility with a capacity to produce between 7 and 8 million units per year.

As part of the commitment to technological development, both facilities can be monitored 24 hours a day through Norvento’s ‘energy’ app (available on Google Play and App Store), which allows users to control the performance of their renewable installation in real time, consulting graphs and historical data and exporting this data via email, as well as receiving alerts and notifications.

Once the project is in place, Torre de Núñez will become one of the first Galician meat companies to opt for industrial photovoltaic self-consumption in the ham production process as a means of reducing its carbon footprint and promoting sustainable development.

In this regard, José Manuel Núñez, CEO of Torre de Núñez, points out that “Torre de Nuñez’s investment projects involve continuing to develop our activity in Galicia while being responsible with our environment.” Likewise, Iván Nogueiras, Managing Director of Norvento, highlights that “photovoltaic technology has advanced a lot in recent years, becoming more accessible and scalable for projects of all types and sizes. We are pleased to be able to join a Galician company committed to sustainable development and innovation such as Torre de Núñez on its path towards energy transition.”
