- This project will be promoted by its strategic partner Norvento Enerxía, at the Castellar Vidrio plant, located in Castellar del Vallés
- The photovoltaic installation will have the capacity to produce close to 8,000 MWh/year, which means that more than 10% of the energy consumed by the plant will come from self-consumption
- This initiative is part of Grupo Vidrala’s decarbonization and energy efficiency plan
Grupo Vidrala, a leading company in the manufacture of glass containers, has announced the installation of a photovoltaic project for the Castellar Vidrio plant, located in the Barcelona town of Castellar del Vallés, together with its partner Norvento Enerxía, a technology group that manufactures systems for energy generation and storage, develops and operates large renewable energy plants and provides advanced energy solutions for self-consumption.
In this way, Vidrala begins the construction project of a photovoltaic self-consumption plant in March, which involves the installation of photovoltaic modules up to a power of 6 MWp. The panels will be placed on the roofs of the Castellar plant and the end of the installation is scheduled for the month of June.
This initiative is part of the decarbonization and energy efficiency plan launched by Grupo Vidrala and for which at the end of 2022 it announced an agreement with Norvento Enerxía, with the aim of reducing dependence on fossil energy, promoting self-consumption and improving the global energy efficiency with the study and installation of renewable alternatives among other actions. All this is a reflection of Vidrala’s commitment to society, as an intrinsic part of its business strategy, as well as its “Glass Made Good” sustainability strategy, which focuses on the “4Ps”, which refer to the people, the planet, the population and prosperity as a whole.
The company has relied on the Galician company to speed up its transition towards new energy supply models that are more flexible, competitive and respectful of the environment. Norvento Enerxía has carried out the technical-economic feasibility work, procedures and the engineering project.
The new photovoltaic plant at Castellar Vidrio will have the capacity to produce approximately 8,000 MWh of energy per year. This will make it possible to obtain between 10% and 15% of energy generation for self-consumption over the entire energy consumption of said installation. In addition, this project will mean the reduction of more than 2,000 tons of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere per year.
This self-consumption project that Vidrala promotes together with Norvento Enerxía is in addition to the one that the company implemented in 2022 at the Crisnova plant, located in Caudete. The 12 MW installation will allow the company to reduce the emission of about 12,000 annual tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.
